Threw a code scanner on the mini. Says there are no faults with the engine. After driving around a couple miles, the check engine light went away too. Hmmmm....

Buy a OBD2 DCAN to USB cable, download BMW tools and use INPA to accuratly diagnose. Off the shelf scanners dont compare. This software will give you a history of codes and an easier solution. lots of guides online

Been using a Carly obd scanner. Has gotten every fault correct so far

Most generic scanners don’t support factory specific faults and this won’t display any at all if that’s all that was stored. Your fault was probably intermittent or a single occurrence “glitch”.

This and a tablet and the TorquePro app and you can watch your engine in real time. Fun to watch the the timing responding to various inputs. And quite useful diagnosing oddball problems: I saved a buddy from just throwing parts at his truck with live data pointing to a restricted orifice rather than various modules possibly being bad
